What is cloud hosting indeed? The word 'cloud' seems to be quite modish in today's IT, Internet and hosting phraseology. Yet, just a few in fact can tell what cloud hosting is. Possibly it is a sensible idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To make a quite long story brief, we will first tell you what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Limited to a Remote File Storage Only.

1. Offering a remote disk storage solution, which involves one file storage tool for all customers, does not turn any specific hosting corporation into an authentic cloud hosting provider.

The cPanel hosting vendors call the ability to provide remote data storage solutions a cloud hosting solution. Until now there is nothing wrong with the cloud classification, but... we are discussing website hosting solutions, not remote data storage solutions for private or business purposes. There's constantly one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to name a shared hosting solution, based on a single-server web hosting platform, just like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. That's because the other components of the entire hosting platform must be functioning in exactly the same way - this does not relate only to the remote data storage. The remaining services involved in the whole hosting process also have to be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's extremely difficult. A very meager number of hosting providers can really achieve it.

2. It Involves Domains, E-mail Aliases, Databases, FTPs, Control Panels, and so on.

Cloud hosting is not limited to a remote file storage exclusively. We are discussing a hosting service, serving numerous domain names, websites, email box accounts, and so on, aren't we?

To dub a web hosting service a "cloud hosting" one requires a lot more than distributing plainly remote disk storage mounts (or possibly physical servers). The mail server(s) have to be devoted solely to the electronic mail connected services. Executing nothing different than these given assignments. There might be only one or probably an entire group of email servers, based on the overall load created. To have a real cloud hosting service, the remote database servers should be performing as one, regardless of their actual quantity. Carrying out nothing else. The same goes for the clients' web hosting CPs, the File Transfer Protocol, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a true cloud hosting company will support numerous server farm facility locations on multiple continents.

Here's an instance of a DNS of an authentic cloud hosting plans provider:

dns1.edesite.com

dns2.edesite.com

If such a Domain Name Server is provided by your hosting solutions provider, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud hosting platform in use, but you can definitely be sure when you see a Domain Name Server like the one underneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting platform. This type of Domain Name Server just illustrates that the hosting platform in use is one-single-server based. Maybe it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-single-server web hosting platform and has a market share of more than 98 percent. In cPanel's case, one single physical machine tackles all hosting services (web, e-mail, DNS, databases, FTP, web hosting CP(s), web site files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Perverted Definition of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting solution is not confined solely to a remote file storage service, as plenty of web hosting providers wish it was. Unfortunately for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file hosting distributors would have been classified as cloud hosting ones a long time back! They are not referred to as such, since they merely furnish file web hosting solutions, not cloud hosting services. The file hosting platform seems indeed very simple, when compared to the hosting platform. The remote file storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, as it's only one small part of the entire cloud web hosting platform. There's plenty more to be found in the cloud hosting platform: the Control Panel cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the email cloud and... in the not too distant future, possibly several new clouds we presently are not informed about will show up out of the blue.
