Dedicated Servers Defined

When we speak of web hosting servers, there are 3 main types - web hosting servers, VPS (private virtual servers) and dedicated web hosting. Shared web servers accommodate multiple customers and therefore the system resources per user account are restricted, VPS web hosting offer more configuration autonomy, but also influence other virtual private web hosting servers on the hardware node if used rashly, and dedicated servers offer you the opportunity to perform everything you please without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are normally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or private virtual web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is quite simple. If your firm has a heavy-traffic online portal, or simply has very explicit web server setup requirements, the proper choice would be a dedicated servers. For somebody who is ready to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is not a concern. You are bestowed with full server root privileges and can use 100% of the physical server's system resources without anyone else using these resources and interfering with your websites.

Hardware architectures

Most hosting vendors, incl. us at edesite, provide several hardware architectures you can select from in keeping with your demands. The configurations include different types of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and hard disk drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth quotas. You can select a web hosting CP, which is a convenient user interface if you want to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes only and choose not to resort to a Secure Shell client for all the changes you will be making. We offer three types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a confident Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated servers via a Secure Shell connection only. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you want to give root privileges to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is a great idea. The Hepsia Control Panel graphical user interface that we offer does not offer full root-level access and is mostly suitable for somebody who maintains multiple sites that require plenty of system resources, but wants to administer the web pages, databases and electronic mails using an easy-to-use hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full server root access and have 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting packages instead of utilizing the dedicated servers just for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your dedicated hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring platform activated. Here at edesite the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would allow you to save the same data on two server hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted root-level access deletes something unintentionally.
